Hanumarn Thai Restaurant Toorak
This brand new addition to the Toorak dining scene is no regular local Thai joint. With a fine-dining vibe and a refined and gorgeous interior (think chandeliers, plush curtains draping the floor-to-ceiling windows, carpeted floors, decorative wood carvings and gorgeously upholstered armchairs to match the stunning crockery) it promises to become one of the Toorak set's favourite eateries.
The food is traditional but certainly not stuffy or boring - the hor mok (spicy fish mousse steamed with coconut cream, basil, coriander, chilli and chopped kaffir lime leaves) promises a tantalizing start to your meal, and the gaeng pah nuea (a strong, very spicy non-coconut based curry with rump beef, kaffir lime leaves, ginger, basil and seasonal vegetables) is surely no ordinary Thai beef curry. Decent opening specials promise to keep Hanumarn affordable and accessible to everyday folks, and if things continue in this vein, all reports indicate this could become a true Melbourne great.
