The Fox Collingwood
This funky pub may look grungy, but it's actually one of the friendliest and most accessible pubs in the area, attracting an eclectic crowd of cool Collingwood hipsters, young families and long-time regulars propping up the bar. The rooftop with its view of the Melbourne skyline is a good spot for sunny afternoons and balmy nights, while the dining room and front bar are easier for the family contingent.
The food matches this somewhat diverse group, with a children's menu and plenty of vegetarian options (most of which can be made vegan) to go with the long and varied menu of pub grub and mod-Oz dishes. Sitting beside burgers, parmas and burritos here, for example, are a Moreton Bay bug pie with roasted chats in lemon myrtle and garlic butter and a duck risotto with porcini mushrooms, rosemary, snow peas and bok choy, finished with a balsamic vinegar reduction.
