Pizza - Purist Perfection

The ultimate pizzas for pie nazis and those who cringe at the sight of a tandoori chicken frankenpizza.

1

Ladro Gertrude
Fitzroy
Artisan wood-fired pizza made in irregular shapes that puts most of Australia's rounds to shame. And the service, wine and other Italian mains are delightful as well.

2

Napoli In Bocca
Haberfield
When the boss is in the kitchen, the best damn pizza in Sydney, bar none.

3

Rosso Pomodoro
Balmain
The newest addition to the list, these guys are doing stunning pizzas in (shock) an electric oven. The Prosciutto di Parma pizza, using an Italian cold cut only recently available in Australia, is a thing of beauty.

4

La Baracca Trattoria
Main Ridge
T'Gallant winery's outdoor woodfired escape is possibly the nicest place to enjoy pizza anywhere in Australia. You're in a rustic outdoor setting, among the vines, and the square pizzas are cooked to slightly charred perfection.

5

La Disfida Enoteca Pizza
Haberfield
Another amazing Haberfield pizzeria. La Disfida is a close second to Napoli in Bocca and preferable for those who like their pizzas a little saltier and less sweet.

6

Good Life Modern Organic Pizza
Adelaide
The best pizza in Adelaide and beautiful, wholesome organic pies. It almost makes me want to travel back there just to have another taste.

7

Pompei's
Bondi Beach
The best pizza in Sydney's Eastern suburbs. Thankfully simple but delicious toppings, and great gelato to finish it off with.

8

Pizza Mario
Surry Hills
The only game in town that's certified by Napoli's pizza authority. No substitutions and only traditional pies. Great cosy little spot that is apparently expanding soon.

9

Young Alfred
Sydney
If you're heard about how good Arthur's Pizza in Paddington is, that's old news - come to Young Alfred instead. Arthur's pizza-makers moved to this scenic Circular Quay spot after they were booted out and still make great pizzas and still have a great-looking staff. As for Arthur's, it ain't what it used to be.

10

Hugos Bar Pizza
Kings Cross
Gourmet pizza usually means bad pizza in Australia, but at Hugo's they get it right and the pork belly pie is a beaut. It's also got great cocktails and an oh-so-stylish crowd as well.

11

mad Pizza e Bar
Darlinghurst
This is a place that I like more than love, but it's hard to get good pizza by the slice anywhere in Sydney, so this gets my top nod for when you want to have it quick and simple.
