Monday Night Restaurants

Having a boyfriend who works in hospitality has its perks (free cocktails, late-night parties), but it makes planning a romantic dinner a deux close to impossible. Finding a funky restaurant that is open on a Monday night is a tough task, but these are some of the considerate eateries that have made my life easier.

1

Bodega
Surry Hills
With a wide-open kitchen and a bright mural on the wall, Bodega has a funky, slightly raucous feel (or perhaps that was just me after a few Spanish wines). Even on a Monday night the place gets pretty packed - a testament to the fabulous Spanish and South American tapas.

2

North Bondi Italian Food
North Bondi
Another great one for sharing with a loved one - although the fights over who gets the last baccala ball can become quite heated. The menu almost demands that you over-order, but a digestive drop of Averna and a waddle back along the promenade usually does the trick.

Tabou
Surry Hills
Tabou is one of the only lights shining amid the deathly stillness of Crown Street on a Monday night. Young and funky, it is not. But Tabou has the retro appeal of a classic French bistro, from the bentwood chairs to the goat's cheese souffle. It's the perfect place to bring up that trip to Paris you'd like him to take you on...

Local Wine Bar & Restaurant
Paddington
Cocktails, wine, great food and cute staff - Local makes us seriously discuss moving to Paddington. We've had some great nights here, recklessly over-indulging on food and booze, but with no regrets. However, a word to the wise: those Paddo village streets are hell on heels and an accident waiting to happen after a couple of vinos.
