Blue Smoke BBQ
New Farm
|
Armed with a reputation that's hardly up in smoke, Blue Smoke BBQ is renowned for arguably being Brisbane's only authentic barbecue joint. Cooked in a traditional American style, the slow-smoked and chargrilled steaks and juicy ribs come in appropriately generous sizes, from Texan beef ribs to the famous buffalo chicken wings. Southern-style lunches are available during the week, while an innovative range of salads should satisfy the less carnivorous.

The Venice
Brisbane
|
Located right on the river, the Venice makes the most of its location (and name) with a large alfresco dining area and a menu filled with Italian delicacies, specialising in the regions of Tuscany and Umbria. So convincing is the cuisine and locale that diners may be fooled into believing that they have been transported to Venice itself.

Pearl Cafe
Woolloongabba
|
Packed with heritage houses and antique shops, this particularly picturesque part of Brisbane has become even more desirable with Daniel Lewis (formerly of Gunshop Cafe) setting up shop in a quaint terrace house. Lewis defines the menu at his cafe as "cheeky classic", and it's a phrase that works well to describe the space too; think raw brick and bentwood chairs, teamed with stylish modern lighting.

King of Kings
Fortitude Valley
|
King of Kings has been serving yum cha to Brisbanites for more than 20 years, so it's safe to assume they're doing something right. Found in three locations around the city, King of Kings also has an extensive a la carte menu from which you're sure to find something to feed your fancy.

Himalayan Cafe
New Farm
|
High in the glacial peaks of New Farm is a little bit of the most mysterious nation on earth. Suitably colourful, the interior of this rather small restaurant might remind you of a Nepalese teahouse were it not for the fact that there is a massive selection of vegetarian food on the menu, along with such dishes as a delicious, tender goat stew and a delicately flavoured prawn dish.

Landmark
Sunnybank
|
"As an ethnic Chinese customer who is intimately familiar with authentic Cantonese cuisine and has dined at Landmark several times, it is in my opinion one of the best yum cha joints in Brisbane. At least, close enough to the level of superlative Cantonese food found only in select locales like its home province of Guangdong, or elsewhere in Hong Kong, Melbourne, etc."
