This CBD steakhouse has been going strong for a decade, a testament to the ultimate satisfaction of a hearty slab of beef. Tucked away in one of Melbourne's little laneways, Squires Loft occupies the sort of blunt, masculine space that would compel you to order steak, even if you weren't craving it to start with. The menu gets straight to the point and is dominated by a generous list of prime cuts of 28-days-aged beef. To complement your chosen steak, the walls are lined with bottles of wine - predominantly bold Australian reds, of course.

Excellent
Great Food and great Service. have been to both the city rare steakhouses and squires loft and all are excellent. Eye fillet is awesome and the ribs are even better. Best steak in Australia. cant not go there and not have the ribs. MUST have the ribs.

Sodium City
We'd been to Squires steak house in Docklands and found it quite mediocre. The steak marinade was way too salty. The accompanying sauces (at $4.50 each) were quite ordinary too.
After hearing from friends that the city Squires steak house was a lot better we thought we'd try it.
What a disappointment!
The entree was chicken cesar salad. One word - salty! The chicken marinade was salty, bacon was salty, the anchovies were super salty, not help much by the already salty parmesan.
Our dining experience was already beginning to feel so deja vu!
Out came the 300g eye fillet well done, and my partner's grilled chicken breast fillet. The chicken fillet looked as brown as the steak - coated with the same caramelised salty marinade that Squires tend to put on everything.
My steak was ok, but still left a salty after taste in the mouth when I was done with it. It also has that cheap, smoked bbq taste to it..
The chips that came out with the chicken & steak were very nice. Probably the highlight of our dinner! $115 dollars later... would not go back there ever again.

Steak as it should be done!
This was a peak dining experience for me, which I only really get 2 or 3 times a year. An absolutely superb eye fillet, marinated in Squire's spicy marinade, married to a rich green pepper sauce and served with the most heavenly steak fries you could ask for. Add a glass of shiraz (as recommended by their ever-helpful waiter) and you have perfection.
The actual decor is nothing special, but that's part of the charm in a way. I will be back many more times.

Squires Loft
This restaurant surpassed our expectations of a 'good' steak, the food was absolutely sublime; not to mention the service which was simply outstanding. By far, the best restaurant we have ever been to and we will surely visit again. Fantastic efforts, we are all very pleased! Thanks heaps!
