Schnitz, Queen Street

Need your daily dose of Schnitz? The almighty Austrian invention that is the schnitzel is going even more mainstream in Melbourne with a handful of Schnitz cafes opening up around the city. It all started here in 2007, when this Queen Street sandwich bar brought a new kind of schnitzel to the fore: the healthy schnitzel. That's right, these schnitzels are not deep-fried, but rather made fresh and pan-fried in cholesterol-free vegetable oil. All of the beef, chicken, pork, fish and vegetable schnitzels can be had in an array of wraps, rolls or salads suited to the on-the-go professional who wants takeaway, or the lazy daydreamer happy to perch at a table inside.

What rhymes with Schnitz?
Veal, chicken, pork, beef, fish...schnitzel-lovers are in heaven! And if schnitzel is not your thing, well, go somewhere else. The young, all-female staff are very friendly, conributing to an atmosphere which enhances the experience that is essentially eating a schnitzel sandwich (no false advertising here!). The boys from the office always got their coffee here too, not because the coffee was significantly better than other local cafes, but I did specify "boys"...
