Salto is based on a quirky mix of cafe and bistro in Melbourne's CBD. It pulls this off particularly well: it's a stylish place to stop for a quick bite, offering great food and good service. The full glass front onto Little Collins Street adds a certain open-air feeling to the venue and stops the black decor darkening the room too much. The owners' attention to detail is reflected in the choice of high-quality cutlery and glassware, along with heavy white fabric napkins - certainly a refreshing change from your usual cafes. Salto's menu choice isn't vast, but it is well thought out; the food is great, the portions are generous and the wine list is well priced.
