From the former owners of the old Kuali Malaysia Surrey Hills restaurant, Redbean brings together favourites and lesser-known dishes of Malaysian and Chinese cuisine. You'll find specials like curry leaf fragrant soft shell crab or prawns, Hainanese chicken, and Assam fish head (a Northern Malaysian delicacy in spicy tamarind soup), among classics like nasi goreng, seafood curry laksa, and beef rendang.

Honest, good food.
We had tried to get in a few Mondays earlier, but the place had been full. This time, we were lucky: only a few tables of students in the front part, and we were ushered into a back room where there was already another table of oldies.
The food was close to what you'd find in Melaka, Penang or KL: maybe toned down a little for the Australian palate. The service was excellent: the waitress was new, but she was followed by the proprietress who quickly amended the little errors, apologised, and was cheerful and helpful without being intrusive.
Redbean Kitchen will go on our list for future casual dining.
