Sometimes smaller is better, as this tiny cafe attests. With fresh produce taking up part of the space and only a few booths pressed up against an appropriately earthy olive-green wall, getting a seat is by no means guaranteed, but is worth taking the chance. Piadina specialises in, well, piadina: grilled Italian flatbread served with a range of toppings. Beyond these exotic sarnies, they serve a range of delicious and warming dishes, made with the slow food philosophy in mind. These dishes are described on a daily changing menu on brown butcher's paper and might include a Greek goat stew or a house-made chicken and chickpea pie.

Fast, friendly and freaky food
Piadina Slowfood - just the name made me happy to visit. And, stepping down into the place - all timber, rustic, organic, fresh vegies, fruits and smiles. We were seated almost immediately, with another hungry diner who had already ordered. We got to enjoy watching him savour his two delicious courses. We ordered the freshly juiced blood oranges, coffee, and great freshly cooked meals. Enjoyed it all. Why did I say "freaky" in my heading? I'd never seen anyone eating a flaked bonito topped omelette before. Crazy stuff.

Chucking the Riff Raff
All I can say is that you have jumped to the top of my to visit list since I read that last review. When someone books out half your restaurant and then has the audacity to not show up on time I say good for you for bustling them out, I know those are the sort of dinners I would prefer to never see in my cafe and the type of people I wouldn't want to dine near either.

Work on the service guys!
We had a terrible experience at lunch at Piadina on 10 Nov. Three of a party of seven arrived a few minutes early and assured the staff the rest were en route. We rang to check, they were minutes away. The staff were extremely anxious that our friends would arrive straight away - they did have some demand however we only had the one table and weren't holding things up long. After at least four reminders we were given two minutes for our friends to arrive or we would have to give up the table. Eventually one of the staff yelled across the tables that he "didn't work all day for people to sit around". We'd been there maybe 10 minutes. We left as our friends were arriving and went to The Mess Hall for a lovely lunch, with great service. Piadina may have the slow food right (although not having actually eaten there, I can't say), but the rude service has got to go! And if you're interested in making money guys, you're going to make more $$ from a table of seven than a table of two. Not to mention seven customers that won't be back.

Fantastic Slowfood...Fast!
You get what you pay for and you certainly do here. From tasty meat stews and curries in the winter to pan-seared fish on a bed on crunchy vegies in the summer, there's something for everyone!
