Persimmon Cafe/Bistro

While galleries for the most part are indoor affairs, the NGV offers a verdant oasis in the form of the Grollo Equiset Gardens, and it's here you'll find Persimmon. For those stopping in for a quick bite, sharing plates of charcuterie treats will hit the spot, but those with more time to spare will find rewards in the larger menu. Watercress soup with goats curd gnocchi makes a fresh but warming starter; and mains extend to the likes of chicken Maryland with bacon, baby onions, king brown mushrooms and truffle oil.

The dessert menu deserves a special mention for its sheer creativity and spectacle. A taste of the tropics can be found in the mango and grapefruit cannelloni, served with lime sorbet, meringues and yoghurt; while chocolate gets a twist as a bitter fondant, served with mint ice cream and pop rocks.

Absolute favourite place to lunch
Everytime I go I am guaranteed to fall in love with at least one dish, last time it was a strawberries and cream dessert - yum. The service is wonderful and the relaxed atmosphere with the lovely gardens and fountains surrounding just top it off; I only wish they were open for dinner so I could go more often.
