This restaurant specialises in kushiyaki - delicious morsels grilled on skewers, but there is not a morsel of sushi to be seen. Combine this with the dark, sultry decor and this is certainly not your usual Japanese restaurant.

Best Japanese In Melbourne
HhThis restuaranf is all class. From the moment you walk in your every need desire us catered for. Every time I eat at a new Japanese Restuarant I order the Miso soup. Nihonbashi Zen is the only place which I would rate it as 5 star. The soup is so rich and so flavour some, it beat all others. ?My partner Sean and I return to this resturant again and again as the food is unlike we have experienced. It would suit a business lunchon ?as the resteraunt only seats 30 or so people, noise has never been a problem even when full. As?I have been to this restaurant a number of times so felt I should put up a review as it is one of my favorite restaurants to go to. This for me is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. Authentic, well prepared fresh food. There are so many great dishes to choose A must is the sashimi, the chef makes sure to only prepare the freshest fish, easily one of my favorite places to get great sashimi. They specialise in Kushiyaki (Japanese skewers) so will pick up a few of those during the meal. There are some great mains, the beef is great, but for me the best is the chili soft shell crab.?In addition to the great food is an amazing Sake menu. The Sake is flown in direct from Japan and kept at the correct temperature. Sake fans will surely enjoy. This is a great restaurant to go to for a special occasion. A meal here isn't going to be cheap, however, order a number of different things and enjoy a great night out.Service is always at the high end of the scale.

Very unpleasant dining experience
Firstly, this restaurant is overpriced. Average price for a main meal is around $40. The meals are tasty and well prepared, but you will be starving afterwards and have to stop off at McDonalds on the way home. We ordered rice with our meals to fill the hole and were still hungry afterwards.
The menu is largely in Japanese. We asked for red wine and they served us sake. They then requested we pay for this upon departure, despite not having drunk it and despite reordering red wine afterwards. We also waited over 40 minutes for our meals. Overall, this restaurant over charges, and under delivers. I won't be recommending it to any of my friends.
