The Chiu Chow-style food that Mask of China specialises in comes from the Guangdong province in southern China. Try the venison or squab with Chinjew sauce, or the Crystal Bay prawns with ginger and chilli. The crab dishes are always recommended, as is the fish of the day. From the expertly matched wine to the hazelnut ice cream, this is an unusually good restaurant.

Will be back
Whilst the atmosphere was dull (not many patrons and annoying background music) and the service just pleasant, the great food surpassed any dislikes. We chose stock standard favourites - chicken and sweet corn soup, shredded duck soup, king prawns and seasonable vegetables, beef with oyster sauce, and good ol' fried rice. All delicious, tender meat, gorgeous prawns, and the fried rice was amazingly light. Put it this way...I had dinner at Rockpool the night before, and I'd go back to Mask of China before Rockpool.

Two hats? I don't think so
We were visiting from Sydney and had this place recommended to us. What a disaster. Incredibly overpriced for average food. Nil atmosphere. The cost of a $10 bottle of Mateus was $28, but most wines of the $16 variety were $45 plus. We were amazed at how average such a supposedly great restaurant was.

Grand Final Double Pleasure
It was a winning day all round... after seeing Sydney take the flag, 6 of us went to enjoy some quality Chinese. The food was sensational, the service was exceptional and very friendly (despite our volume and gregarious spirit) and it was all very reasonably priced. I'll be recommending it to my friends and returning next time I'm in Melbourne.
