St Kilda restaurant Mahjong would be proud of its younger CBD sibling. Bringing a new level of chic to Melbourne Cantonese cuisine, the diner has ditched yum cha, kitsch gold dragons and staple share dishes for crisp white table clothes, dramatic design features and a refined selection of entrees, mains and desserts, teamed with an exquisitely constructed wine list.
The menu is sophisticated and concise, offering diners a contemporary twist on classic Chinese dishes, and wines have been chosen to enhance the eastern-inspired flavours.

Great food and service.
My husband and I dined there last night and had a wonderful dining experience. We opted for a tasting of 10 dishes and every offering was impressive. I particularly loved the ginger dumplings and the beef in a pepper and honey sauce. The restaurant was rather empty for the size and I can only put that down to its location, tucked away in Lt Collins St, and the fact is has only been open eight months (according to the waiter.) I decided to write this review (my first one ever) because I want this place to succeed and keep going so we can dine there again! Do yourself (and me lol) a favour and try it.

Fantastic food, service and atmostphere
I have brought numerous corporate clients to Mahjong Black and all of them love it. I hate yum cha when you're trying to have a business conversation so Mahjong Black is perfect since you order your food then your food comes out at the pace you request. Max is always incredibly attentive and friendly. All my colleagues who I have recommended have all raved about the lunch and dinner service and amazing food!!
It also has a prefect venue upstairs for private parties and dinners and an incredible degustation menu!
