Imperial Hotel Bourke Street

This dining room has the look of a good old-fashioned pub bistro, where one can imagine that people have been happily munching on bangers and mash and porterhouse steaks for decades. The timber panelling creates a homely look, while the various caricatures of prominent political figures add a bit of quirky character and remind diners of the pub's close proximity to Parliament House. The menu offers a vast selection of salads, pasta and risotto, steaks and woodfired pizza. After a hearty meal, diners can adjourn to the relaxed main bar. A friendly and convenient place for a quiet after-work beer most days, the Imperial adopts a more raucous mood on Friday nights when the surrounding office workers descend in thirsty hordes upon the pub for cheap pints, house wine and spirits.

A touch of class to Bourke Street
Dinner at the Imperial proved to be a right choice of Venue for a pre-theatre dinner. The name of the dish i had at the Imperial Hotel first got my attention "Spanish Seafood in a claypot",(or something along those lines).Well done to the Chefs ! This dish was promptly served by a friendly waiter and did not fail to impress me (or my fellow patrons), price was reasonable also. The place may need a bit of a facelift but it was kind of old worldly and charming though.i will surely be back to this Dark Horse one day soon and i highly recommend it for foodies and theatre buffs alike. bon appetit my friends.

Gluten free doesn't need to be taste free
I have celiac's so I'm always happy to find a place that has gluten free options on the menu.
I had the porterhouse steak with vegies. The vegies were tasty enough but the steak was the driest piece of meat I've ever eaten. I ordered medium rare - was pink so I'm not sure how they managed to suck any natural juices out of it. I've had steak at restaurants before and even when there isn't a gluten free sauce they've never been this dry.
My partner had the fish and chips - apparently the fish was ok but the batter was way too oily.
The meat pies drifted by - they looked tasty although I wouldn't be able to eat them.
I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. I wouldn't recommend it either - especially not for the price.
