With the overwhelming charm of its authentic Sicilian cuisine and rustic lodging, a converted 19th century warehouse, Il Nostro Posto is the kind of place we would lament the loss of.
Roughly translated, Il Nostro Posto means "our place" and owners Pino and Salvina certainly treat it that way. The service has a genuine warmth to it and the portion sizes are big enough to be reminiscent of Nonna asking if you're eating well enough at home.
Like all traditional Mediterranean eateries seafood features prominently on the menu and the signature dish, the linguine al cartoccio, is a highlight dish among many strong contenders.

Curate's Egg
The service was excellent, the plates were warm, the risotto "funghi di bosco" tasted great - but it appeared to contain only standard button mushrooms! The John Dory fillet special looked yummy - but the flesh was that of a fish caught a while ago. Small matters perhaps but they count when there is so much competition in the same street. I am glad to say that the tira misu was excellent. We'll give it another try one day, to see if this was just a slightly "down" day.

Il Nostro Posto
I took my mum here for dinner and we had a ball. The food was delicious, the service outstanding and the atomosphere just wonderful. The waiter was very attentive to us and made us feel as though we were the only customers in the restaurant (even though the restaurnt was full!). It is now one of my favourite restaurants.

Recommend it to Everyone
This is a fantastic restaurant. We live in Sydney and every time I come to Melbourne I go to this restaurant... and it never disappoints. It has the most fantastic atmosphere, a homely Italian feel - anyone who has been to Italy will agree it transports you back to the Riviera or Sicily. The food is excellent, I've never been disappointed with anything I have ordered and often hold it as the benchmark for other restaurants, which usually fall in comparison. The service was always fine, not overly attentive, but that is expected with a restaurant which lives true to Italian philosophy of sitting down to have dinner to talk to the people you are sitting opposite. It s a great restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone.

Il Nostro Posto
Beautiful restaurant. Shame about the food and service. Food was expensive, overcooked, tiny portions. Service was non existent. It was a very expensive and terrible evening.

Il Nostro Posto
Good venue but the service was very slack, having to ask 2-3 times each for items such as water or beer. Although the entrees and wine were nice enough, the main dishes verged on downright unpleasant for three of the four in our party (overcooked and/or oversalted food). Two of our four mains were replaced at our request. The experience was a surprise and a disappointment.
