Reflecting the multicultural landscape of modern Melbourne, this thoroughly Japanese establishment happens to be lodged in one of the city's oldest buildings (dating back to the mid-1850s). Other than its Victorian facade, Ibuki Lonsdale infuses a distinctly Japanese atmosphere into its surrounds, featuring bamboo-lined walls, luminous lanterns, wide wooden tables and a lush courtyard with all of the above. Accordingly, the food menu is comprised of the usual suspects like sushi, sashimi and tempura, and most importantly the freshly-caught seafood signature dishes, such as the homemade shiokara, or salted fish guts. Add a slew of sake, shyochu, beer and wine varieties, and you've got yourself a night in Tokyo, via Lonsdale Street.
