The small bar floodgates are open and are unlikely to close any time soon (despite a temporary freeze on all permits at the time of writing). Joining the ranks of Sydney's swillhouse elite is Heavy Feather, a tiny upstairs bar that resembles the inside of a birdcage.
Hidden behind a nondescript door just a little further up from uber-cool, clandestine Ching-a-Lings, Heavy Feather is an intimate bar with soft candlelight and plush leather couches. A giant, scary canary mural on one wall and a bespoke pressed metal counter round out the motif of this petite, luxurious aviary.
On the food side of things, you'll find simple fare - chicken wings, mezze, pork belly and its ilk - all of which lends itself to soaking up that booze. The majority of effort here has been expended in creating a stellar drinks list that features cocktails made with finesse and carafes of sangria just destined for a cult following.
