Ezard

Sink into the stylish ambience of Ezard and prepare for one of Melbourne's most elegant and inspirational dining experiences. Chef Teage Ezard is guaranteed to arouse even the most jaded of tastebuds as he creates innovative and boldly flavoured dishes, drawing inspiration from Asia to Europe.

One of the few true proprietors of modern fusion, Ezard doesn't haphazardly combine Eastern and Western flavours as most chefs do when attempting fusion food. Instead, his menu (particularly the eight-course degustation) presents a cohesive and artful synergy between Australian produce, Asian flavour, modern innovation and classic technique from both East and West.

Nice but not wowed
Everything was good but a tad heavy handed on the sodium. Service was professional but not warm.

What an amazing experience!
We arrived for the pre-theater tasting menu, with an added plate of the Wagyu beef added....we thought we would be hungry at the end asit is a tasting menu-boy were we wrong. We arrived just before 6pm and walked out at 7.40 (just in time for Mary Poppins). We were impressed that they were able to get us out in time. I mentioned this at the time of booking but you never know.

The experience worked out to be $80 per person and we all walked away feeling totally satisfied. Considering that the main courses are about half this price and we had 6 dishes, we were extremely impressed.

The service was amazing! We accidently tipped a glass of champagne into one of the meals which they immediately removed and replaced with a fresh dish some minutes later! You felt that you were being watched, but always from a distance. They didn't miss a thing, as soon as you started to remove your jacket, bang, someone was there to take it.
There were so many little things that made you feel like you ARE their number 1 priority. Instead of like you are privileged to be allowed to eat in their restaurant. Very very professional and attentive but also very easy to chat to if you want any more information on your food, though the intros for each dish were fantastic!

The meals were simply divine. I don't know what better way to describe them as all were so perfect in their own way. The steamed crab dumpling, chinese style roast duck (with chilli- my favourite but not too hot at all) and desert of honey crunch icecream with gingerbread and toffee swirl on top were my favourites, though my friends LOVED the Wagyu beef as much as the duck (some more)and the crispy white polenta on sauteed mushrooms.
This list of food/ingredients is also very brief, there was much much more in each dish but just go to their website to see their menu for more information.

We will definitely go back without a doubt and next time we will try the degustation menu.

There is a very good reason why this restaurant was awarded 2 hats by The Age Good Food Guide for 2010.

Do not think twice about to go or not to go.

Pre-theater Preview
We dined at Ezard for their pre-theatre tasting menu (4 courses of smaller than usual portions at $65 per person). We thought this was a great way to sample what Ezard has to offer without paying the $40 main course average. It was not a disappointment!

The food is absolutely spectacular. Flavours are blended with precision to showcase the superbly fresh produce and mastery of the chefs. The standout is by far Ezard s desserts...we had homemade honeycomb ice-cream on a ginger-bread wafer fanned with toffy. The ice-cream was incredibly cold yet smooth and soft on the palette, amazing! I believe that the presentation is very much apart of the Ezard experience. The plates and garnishes are just as fantastic as the meals themselves.

The atmosphere is soft and intimate. Crisp, clean lines and muted colours. Ezard would be equally as good for a romantic dinner as it would for a special occasion with a group of friends.

Service is as expected at a restaurant of this calibre.

Overall a must-must-try for Melbourne foodie and dining enthusiasts!!!

Just lovely
A lovely night for a special occassion. It was at special occassion prices, but I thought very much worth it for the experience. Food and service was supurb. Time flew by. Highly recommended - try the dessert platter and the oyster shooters

Disappointing
I took my sister out for her first time in fine dining experience, were disappointed with our meals. The service and atmosphere was great except for our food. The presentation of our food was fantastic, the meat was cook right, but it all came to the taste. Both our meal very salty. I myself had 10 year hospitality experienced, so i like to dine out a lot. But after tonight experience, i wouldn't come back to ezard.

Disappointing
Considering all the Asian influences on the menu, I was surprised to find that the food at Ezard s (what I tasted of my own and my friends anyway) was richer than I expected. The d?cor and the ambience were lovely very warm, cosy and luxe but not intimidating. The service was very good and although our waiter was a bit on the snooty side, his colleagues more than made up for it. The food though was quite disappointing. Some of the flavours just didn t seem to meld very well together and the food oscillated between being too rich or too bland, which was a view shared by most of my dining companions as well. The desserts in particular, were very ordinary. Overall, I don t regret the dining experience and I really loved the atmosphere but unfortunately, I just didn t enjoy the food.

Absolutely fantastic
One of the best meals I have had in a long time. The food was amazing, the service was amazing and the atmosphere was equally amazing. Our glasses were never empty of water or wine. Food was served and cleared promptly. Whilst the service was attentive it never interferred either.

I was also most impressed by the fact that a vegetarian menu is also available.

The food on offer is a little different to most run of the mill modern australian restaurants and all in all provide a truly memorable meal.

Melbourne highlight
After a week of wining and dining in Melbourne, I can honestly say that Melburnians are spoilt by so much choice of outstanding quality.
Ezard was easily a highlight of the trip not entirely for the food (though excellent) but for the atmosphere and service.

Ezard would be to Melbourne what Aria is to Sydney. With Aria its location and very efficent service are very Sydney. With Ezard the basement location, impeccable but relaxed service make it a truly Melbourne institution.

The eight-course degustation meal finished with the dessert tastings can be almost overwhelming but truly enjoyable. Do not pass on the oyster shooter - in fact order a dozen or half dozen, it is simply brilliant.

The cosy atmosphere is very relaxed and intimate, the service the same. Special thanks to our sommelier for a sublime selection of wine, all four choices were perfect.

Ezard is quite simply a great Melbourne restaurant and deserves its status as part of the Melbourne elite.
