At Enlightened Cuisine, chef Ahloy Lew serves up exciting variations on traditional Chinese and South East Asian cuisine with dishes from kung po chicken to shark fin soup, sweet and sour pork, beef rendang, buttered prawns and tom yum with abalone. But here's where the enlightenment comes in - no animal has been harmed to prepare the menu. This is an entirely vegetarian and vegan restaurant. In keeping with Chinese Buddhist beliefs, all the meat-based meals are constructed from alarmingly convincing faux-flesh substitutes, fashioned from soy proteins and wheat gluten, and flavoured with a tempting array of vegetable sauces and Asiatic spices. Be greeted by a smiling Buddha and enjoy a guilt-free meal of mock meats which could tempt and fool even the fiercest carnivore. Situated in Southbank, opposite Crown Casino but worlds apart, this is wholesome feel-good food presented in a tranquil fine dining environment.

Best Vegetarian Restaurant In CBD
Parents are vegetarian so we often come here for the best range of vegetarian dishes. Many mock meat dishes you dont see anywhere in town, prices are moderate in a fine dining part of Southbank and cater for all sorts of vegetarian diets upon requests.

Flavour only comes from real meat you say?
People constantly give vegetarians a hard time for being vegetarian, they laugh at your decision and say food that is vegetarian has no flavour. But i bet if you took them to this restaurant that serves vegetarian mock meat dishes bursting with flavour, they'd have a hard time justifying the unnecessary inhumane slaughter of animals for consumption as "food".

The worst service ever?
I went to this restaurant with 20 of my friends for a birthday recently because I heard that the food was pretty good. We each paid over $25 a head to have the banquet which consisted of duck, chicken, stirfried vegetables and sweet and sour pork. Only one plate of each dish arrived for each of our two round tables, which was enough to only feed half of us. When I brought this up with the manager he said that it was not within his budget to give us anymore. We collectively paid over $400 and will never go back to that restaurant again!

Consistently good
Interesting menu, well cooked, well presented. I have eaten there almost every week for 2 years. Ranks a close second to Vegie Hut (Box Hill).
