There's a new colonel in town, with a different kind of fried chicken to get mouths watering. Shooting into the funky club surrounds of Revolver Upstairs, Colonel Tan's is a new oriental venture named after Revolver's owner, Thai music star Tan Punturaumporn. Accordingly, most of the menu follows a Thai template, under the watchful gaze of chef Karen Batson, from Melbourne favourites The Toff in Town and Cookie. Reveling in a witty, modern culture clash, Colonel Tan's delivers Thai and Asian cuisine in an all-American diner setting, and the irony is certainly not lost on dishes like the tofu Whoppa, and the Bangkok Bolognaise (a re-interpretation of Thai drunken noodles). But of course, favourites like pad thai are also on hand if it's too much adventure for one night.
