Chin Chin

Creating waves in Australia's culinary capital is no mean feat, but this modern Thai diner on Flinders Lane has certainly set Melbourne's gastronomic heart fluttering.

As most people with their finger on the food pulse will tell you, it's not just what a restaurant is doing but who is doing it that counts, and Chin Chin has an impressive list that deserves some name-checking. Chin Chin is the brainchild of hospo entrepreneur Chris Lucas - who needs no introduction - and for his latest venture the restaurateur has enlisted the help of chefs Andrew Gimber (former head chef at Sydney's Jimmy Liks) and Ben Cooper (of Nobu, Ezard and St Ali fame).

With these two mod-Asian gurus at the helm expect a menu that brings a refinement and delicacy to South-East Asian cooking. The main focus is Thai with some Vietnamese tendencies creeping into some parts of the menu. In a cuisine defined by robust flavours and overpowering chilli heat, Gimber and Cooper have brought a subtlety and balance that should see Chin Chin become one of this year's hottest CBD prospects.

Worth the Wait
After trying a couple of times for dinner and not waiting for a table we decided to go for lunch. All I can say is this place rocks. The food was superb with twice cooked short rib being the stand out.The menu is very extensive for finding dishes to you tastes will not be hard. We had a bottle of Holly's Garden Pinot Gris which was a perfect match for the food.Everybody who enjoys Thai/Asian food needs to get here!!!
