Just off one of the many laneways in Chinatown sits an unexpected dumpling and noodle spectacular. There are no streamers or disco balls to herald the excitement, but take a chance on this unpretentious eatery and you'll be rewarded with cheap and generous servings of wonderful dumplings. The menu offers a broad variety of dishes, both sweet and savoury, as well as some vegetarian meals with such faux-meats as vegie 'ham' and vegie 'duck'. Tight budgets are not a problem here with meals priced around the $7 mark and served with complimentary Chinese tea.

Banquet at Camy
As always, the dumplings are fantastic, the prices cheap, and we've come to expect the treatment we'll get at this dumpling house. BUT BEWARE....be firm if you wish to eat from the dumpling menu rather than the "Eat all you can eat" banquet menu. If you are herded upstairs, the wait staff will refuse to serve you unless you get the banquet. Come to an agreement with someone downstairs, and make sure you have the menus in your hands BEFORE you head up the stairs. Then enjoy! This is not to say that the banquet menu isn't good...it's just not for everyone, and 8 people will get their fill of dumplings WITH alcoholic drinks for much less than the $12 banquet provided without drinks.

waiting sucked big time!
Great dumplings which were awesome and cheap. This place is a cute little find down Tattersalls lane - always busy, but on a weekday night you will always get a seat straight away if your a couple. However I received my noodles 45min after ordering while people who got in after me were receiving their dumplings way before me. My partner received her noodles 15min after ordering. We waited too long and it was very frustrating because we were hungry!!!

Very very good!
The best place on earth! It is very cheap, and the food it great! The owner is hilarious, and, if you get to know him, he will make sure you have a good night. The service is not the best but it is a fun and tasty night out no matter what!! Highly recomended!! If you go once you will go again.

All that matters is it's cheap and delicious
You don't come here for the service - you come here for the cheap dumplings. I've been back to this place many times and while the service can be truly atrocious (some of the waitresses are getting better though), you can't beat the cheap but yummy dumplings. And for the price you're paying, you really can't complain. So long as you come with low expectations, you won't be disappointed! Be warned though - there is often a queue on busy nights, and sometimes the place gets so packed you may have to share your table with random strangers (odd and creepy but somewhat hilarious experience).

Not great for Sunday lunch
Had eaten here before and was blown away with the food but not this time. Service as per usual was just awful but the food in no way compensated for that. The dumplings came out tepid at best and we were refused tap water. All very disappointing as this place obviously has its high-highs and its very low-lows.

Great food but shame about the service
The service here is truly appalling but the delicious dumplings more than make up for it.

Try it
I'm addicted to Shanghai Dumpling House; I need to have it at least 3 times a week! The food is wonderful, the music is daggy but fun and the service reminds me of the streets of Shanghai itself (people going in every direction with no sense of order). Yet apart from this you nearly always get your food (usually very quickly). It literally is more than a restaurant - go to Shanghai Dumpling House once (or SHD for short as regualars call it) and you'll be going there several times a week and telling everyone about it.

What service?
Don't get me wrong - the food is great. Really tasty and simple. Pity the same can't be said about the service. Now, my bf told me that you can't expect much for the price you pay, but seriously... We literally had to grab a waitress, as she kept going around pretending she didn't see us. After our order, she took 2 others. Guess what - we got served last. And only one plate arrived. We watched as everybody ate, and we stared at our small plate of dumplings... So sad. We had four wait staff go past, and each time I said: we are waiting for our food. Eventually, I had to threaten to leave. The dumplings arrived. 45 min after we had ordered.
