"Everything you see I owe to spaghetti." She may not have known it at the time but with these immortal words Sophia Loren gave the impetus for the opening of this classic Italian bistro.
Surry Hills hipsters may bemoan that the last thing the suburb needs is another eatery, but when it's one of this calibre no-one should be complaining. Market saturation be damned!
Caffe Sicilia embraces the stereotypes of a classic Italian bistro with a modern day interpretation that turns kitsch to chic: think the requisite black-and-white tiled floor, Thonet chairs and marble tabletops re-imagined with a smart eye for style.
As far as food goes Caffe Sicilia is equal parts cafe, pasticceria, trattoria and enoteca. The chameleon venue is just as suitable for a mid-morning coffee and cafe as it is for some robust Italian fare or a cocktail come sundown.
