Some people may think Beatrix, newly opened on Northside's Queensberry strip, is just another dime-a-dozen cafe inseparable from the countless others that have and will continue to open in Melbourne's saturated "coffee culture" marketplace. Those people are wrong.
Equal parts bakery, patisserie and cafe, Beatrix manages to satisfy just about every conceivable vice without being a casino. Sweet tooths will be in cavity-creating, diabetes-inducing heaven with the range of cakes on offer, and you can even get a free sample slice just by donating your old egg beater.
